Free page peel script

I first noticed the page peel script about a month ago. Like many people I have a near phobia of clicking on shiny objects on web-sites I’m not familiar with. But this caught my attention. The top right hand corner of the web-page was shimmering and the corner seemed to be peeled away. The text in the corner said: “Click here”. And I did. I was fascinated. If you hover your mouse over the corner the page will ‘peel away’ to reveal whatever is beneath. It is a very eye-catching and still relatively new way to advertise on your site.
As soon as I saw it, I wanted it for my own blog. I did my usual thing and went looking for a free version of the script. This turned out to be a harder thing to do than I thought. What I found was people trying to sell the script from prices as high as $80 to as low as $5. The closest I could come to free was sites who were running promotions where they would give you the script if you signed up for something else.
I was sorely tempted to pay the $5 to get it but ultimately I just forgot about it – until today. While stumbling around I came across the script for free! I downloaded it and got it running and it works.
Once you download and extract the .rar file all you have to do is:
1. Edit the peel.js script to point it to whatever url you want people to go to when they click on the corner.
2. You then create two images, one is the small 75×75 pixel image that you see when the corner is unpeeled and the other is the 500×500 one that you see when you move the mouse over it.
3. Upload the whole folder onto your web-site.
4. Insert one line of code into the header information of the page you want the peel to appear on.
That’s it! And it’s free!

That is IMHO one of the niftiest selling scripts to have. It works best for more “commercial” sites. I’ve got it too since months ago, but paid a few dollars for it.

@ Darrin, I agree with you. I think it’s the most eye-catching type of advertising I’ve ever seen on a web-page. It’s still pretty new though so I suppose that’s partly it too.

Hi Irfan,
I had a look at your site with Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7 and you have got the script installed successfully. It may be that you are using an older version of a browser, such as Internet Explorer 6, which doesn’t recognise the script.
While you have got the script installed what you also need to do is to replace the default jpg images - small.jpg and large.jpg with the images that you want to appear in the corner. The default images are just two blank squares of the size that your images should be.

Does this script work on a wordpress blog. I believe I installed script correctly but need help on where to install javascript in wordpress. Do I need to edit the header in wordpress under header in theme ediitor?

Aloha Keith!
I’m using Wordpress as well so it works here.
You don’t install the code directly into your template. You instead upload it and the other files to a folder that you call ‘peel’ which you put on the same domain where you host your blog. Before you upload it make the couple of changes advised to you in the ‘readme’ file which comes with it.
Then, as you said, you go into the header section in the theme editor of Wordpress and insert one line of code before the tag which is:
After that the page peel should work.

Love it but…
I got it to work with WordPress in FireFox it shows but not in IE!?
Any Ideas?

I use wordpress for this blog as well and it works fine. I know I have a problem seeing it in IE6 but it works in IE7 and also in Firefox where I have placed the code.
Other people have had problems getting it to work in Explorer. Have a look at http://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=50890

Hi I have installed the script and works great in Firefox, but I cannot get it to show in IE7, any ideas?

Other people have experienced similiar problems. It seems to be down to the positioning of the script. The script works for me in Firefox and in IE7 but not IE6. In my case I position the script within the header div.

It will work in IE if and only if u write your script in body tag it will work in IE.

I saw some product available to sell online but the only decent banner he had involved the page peel script - which someone else who is no doubt him or his mate was selling for something like $80 so to get it for free is very handy
